LEATHER CIGAR CASES
You remove the white cardboard sleeve; open the steel grey box with the proudly centred unfold the velveteen cloth; and can’t help but appreciate the exquisite leather cigar case.
But does it live up to its looks?

The criteria - what to look for in a cigar case:
Besides beauty, the leather must be firm enough to protect the cigars;
Moulded grooves are essential to hold each cigar in place;
Telescopic – to allow for different length cigars;
The fit should be as close as possible to offer a reasonable seal - a “whoosh” of air as the case is closed;
Stream-lined design with rounded top and bottom, to ensure that the case will slip easily into a pocket;
The final touch – a leather lining that won’t snag the cigar, and is not too absorbent;

The finishes:
“Sidecar” – a distinctive, relatively new finish: “Bitter-chocolate” brown, almost black, with a subtle grain and elegant plated logo. The straight line of the outer sleeve neatly mirrors the straight edges of the logo.
According to “Affluent Page”, the inspiration for this finish goes back nearly 100 years, when Dunhill specialised in motoring accessories; in fact their motto at the time was  “Everything But The Motor”. In 1915 they designed an elegant motorbike sidecar, catering to the gentleman motorcyclist.

“White Spot” – Black, grained calf leather from Spain, the home of the luxury cigar case industry.
Sophisticated styling, with the distinctive white spot – a symbol of perfection.

“Terracotta” - Traditional tan colour cowhide – quality leather with a smooth and tasteful appearance. Simply embossed with the elegant Dunhill logo.

A word of caution:
Most cigar cases do not have a built-in humidification system – so cigars cannot be expected to remain fresh for more than one or two days, especially in dry climates.
For longer periods, eg when travelling, try glass tubes or a travel case

HUMIDIFICATION SYSTEMS

With modern technology one can regulate the evaporation rate of water to a set degree of Relative Humidity – in the case of cigars: 70%; Certain chemicals (tasteless and harmless) can be added to ensure that when the ambient Relative Humidity is about 70%, evaporation will stop. Now that means that as long as you keep your humidifier topped up the RH will stay at this optimum 70%
