Short Filler Cigar Selection Short Filler Cigar Selection

Short Selection

Too often today, you have to tailor your cigar smoking to a time and place – both limited. This is when a short, short-filler cigar is the most satisfying. Here are three quality cigars that fit into a short time – without any diminution of flavour or enjoyment.

Short filler cigars – machine-made, 100% tobacco - filler, binder and wrapper - ensure the quality of these premium short filler cigars and cigarillos. Consistency is the keyword for such cigars. Machines can be set to weigh out exact amounts of tobacco, roll them into an exact diameter and cut to an exact length, with no room for human inconsistency. The composition of up to 15-20 different tobaccos  (the best-kept secret of every cigar-maker) is a Blender's dream.

Young Selection Korte Senorita - 73mm x 12mm
From Belgium, the “Young Selection” cigars are rolled in a traditional factory with traditional care and attention in respect of the excellence of the leaf, the consistency of the finished cigar, the refinement and sophistication of the flavour. From the feel you will know that there has been no “puffing” in their production – just pure, completely natural, perfectly matured tobaccos. The blends are carefully conceived using cigar leaf from Cuba (for spiciness), Java (for richness), Maduro Brazil (for mellowness), Sumatra (for smoothness), with often as many as 15-20 carefully selected varieties. The Korte Senorita is slightly thicker than a normal senorita – increasing the easy draw and smooth smoking qualities.

P.G.C Hajenius Kleine Tuitknak – 94mm x 12.7mm
Established since 1826, the House of Hajenius is one of the great Dutch cigar houses. Many consider the Hajenius cigars the benchmark for Dutch cigars. The tobaccos come from the best plantations of Java, Sumatra, Brazil and Cuba, blended according to old family recipes which are kept secret. Throughout the years the House of Hajenius developed several types of cigars and the Sumatra series is one of their favourites - well balanced cigars with a mild taste, an attractive spicy aroma and a creamy finish. The Kleine Tuitknak is a traditional Perfecto shape. You place the broad end in your mouth and light the tapered end.

Short filler cigars - handmade
Torres de Quart Caliqueños No.2 Cortos - 103mm x 12.5mm
The “Caliqueños” style of cigars has a long tradition in the south of Spain. The cigars are fully handmade: Tripa (filler) cut up for burning qualities; Capote (binder) a single strong leaf to hold the filler together; Capa (wrapper) a single shade-grown leaf which contributes about 2% of the flavour.  Only one varietal is used - natural Burley tobacco cultivated in the area of Valencia.
Now Burley, especially this varietal, is not a glamorous leaf. The leaves are large, thick and threaded with prominent veins so the feel and look of the cigar is rough and irregular, the exact opposite of the usual smooth, handmade, or premium short-filler, cigar
However in pipe tobacco, Burley is known and appreciated for contributing smoothness to a blend, and this is also the case in the Caliqueños. So don’t be put off by the appearance, once the cigar is lit up the draw is effortless, the burn is even, the ash holds well and the taste is just amazing – spicy but mellow, with no “bitterness” at the end of the smoke.

Watchpoint: You should draw gently on these cigars so you won’t destroy the fine flavor.
