CLOSE UP DETAILS OF NEWLY LISTED PIPES
Cumberland
Cumberland 3109 Canadian
54-DHDPC3109 R4495.00
This is an exceptional size pipe for a Dunhill Group 3. The extra-long oval shank keeps the overall look slim and elegant. The slightly wider mouthpiece ensures a comfortable balance in the mouth.
The grain is quite beautiful – flame grain rising from the heel of the bowl; with ring ridges at right angles to the flame grain.
Very lightweight, which counter balances the leverage due to the length of the stem

Cumberland 4110 Liverpool
54-DHDPC4110 R5450.00
The lovely appearance of this pipe is evidence of the quality of the original block.
Straight grain all round showing birdseye on the smooth rim.
Complementing the straight grain are the ridges of ring grain, more dominant on the left.
The close matching of the bowl and mouthpiece colours offers a glimpse of the attention to detail in a Dunhill product.

County
County 3103 Billiard
54-DHDPZ 3103 R4495.00
To me the feeling of the County finish is one of something “well worn”, something that is old and comfortable to have.
But the smooth rim shows a tight birdseye grain. This confirms the flame grain up the one side and under the shank, with birdseye on the other side.
This medium sized billiard would make a good partner on a casual weekend away or when formality is out of bounds.

County 3202 Bent Billiard
54-DHDPZ3202 R4495.00
As with all the pipes with the County finish this pipe has that feeling of an old friend. It doesn’t pretend to be bright and shiny, the polishing to create the contrasting colours has smoothed the surface.
Just hold it in your hand and you will feel what I mean.

Shell Briar
Shell Briar 3110 Liverpool
54-DHDPS 3110a
The relatively shallow sandblasting is one sign of how much hard wood there is in this pipe.
Another indicator is the light weight, probably as a result of the hard wood curing better and reducing weight.
Most of the bowl is covered in birdseye grain, with some cross grain on the back of the bowl above the shank.
The long shank will enhance the taste and dryness of the smoke before it leaves the pipe.
Stands on its own.

Shell Briar 5103 Billiard
54-DHPS 5103 R6095.00
Classic Billiard – the comparatively light sandblasting may be an indication of how much hardwood there is in this pipe. Just feel the sharpness of the inside edge of the rim and the super smoothness.
One side has distinctive straight grain with ring ridges at right angles to the grain, the other is definite birdseye.
The one or two deeper spots in the surface may be why this block didn’t make the root or even straight grain category.

Shell Briar 4108 Bent Rhodesian
54-DHPS 4108 R5150.00
The first thing that caught my eyes, after the perfect form and feel of this pipe, was the change in the grain pattern of the bowl.
Virtually straight grain up to the bottom of the slope, then the scrambled rough Birdseye up to and around the rim. Self-standing.
A large piece of briar, and the shape is exceptionally comfortable in the hand.

Shell Briar 4114 Bent Dublin
54-DHPBS4114 R5150.00
I don’t know why we don’t see many of this shape. It is so elegant, and the feel in the hand is quite different to the feel of most other bent shapes.
The Dublin bowl just snuggles deep down in the fingers.
Self standing at rest.
Very lightweight, beautifully balanced.

Shell Briar 5213 Saddle Bent
54-DHDPS 5213 R6095.00 (2000)
The perfect symmetry between the height of the bowl and end of the shank is what gives this pipe its good balance in the hand and at rest on its own.
The saddle mouthpiece lends a degree of lightness to the overall appearance of the pipe.
The front displays a stunning area of deeply-etched straight grain, so, as one would expect, the rest of the bowl and shank show definite sections of cross grain and birdseye
